Just Saw a 21st Century Sidecar

… and it’s not what I expected.

There’s a stretch of road downtown with very little traffic at night, since it tees right into the college. We like walking along there. As we were walking on the sidewalk tonight, we heard a couple chatting behind us and to the side, clearly coming up on the road, not the sidewalk.

We’ve some some interesting things before on that road, including a tandem bike with a child add-on adapter and an infant trailer. (It reminded me of the mountain people in Portugal, except there the entire family piles onto one seat on a high-pitched whining scooter!)

This time, it turned out to be a guy slowly bicycling along, towing a girl in a frilly yellow ankle-length dress, who was standing on a skateboard. She had one arm stretched straight out to her side and clamped on the guy’s arm, so they gave the impression of a gliding promenade down the middle of the street.

I don’t remember what I was expecting, but I know I wasn’t expecting that.

To the future!
